Description
A cream bunny sitting beside a strawberry nearly as big as she is, both set on a small ruffled mat and mounted on a snap clip.
The bunny is amigurumi — worked in the round as a stuffed sphere rather than as a flat shape, with two long ears standing upright, two round forepaws resting on the mat, black domed eyes and a single red stitch for the nose and mouth. The whole head sits up off the clip in three dimensions.
The strawberry is worked the same way: a stuffed round in red, with white seed stitches scattered across it by hand and a five-point green calyx crocheted separately and set over the top.
Both sit on a flat oval mat in pale cream, edged all the way round with a raised red bobble border that lifts and scallops at the rim.
The back is a flat snap clip bonded to a felt pad, so the metal is enclosed and the clip closes against fabric rather than hair.
Roughly 5.5 cm wide and 5 cm tall to the ear tips. Because the strawberry seeds are placed by hand, no two clips are marked quite alike.
Please note: small parts. Not suitable for children under three.
Materials
- Crocheted yarn in cream, red and green.
- Polyester fibre filling in the bunny head and the strawberry.
- Black domed safety eyes.
- Metal snap clip bonded to a felt pad.
Dimensions
Craft
- This is amigurumi rather than flat crochet, which is the whole difference between a clip you notice and a clip you do not.
- The bunny head is worked in the round in a continuous spiral and stuffed, so it is a sphere — a full head sitting up off the clip, catching light on one side and casting a shadow on the other. A flat crocheted bunny is a badge. A stuffed one is an animal.
- The strawberry is worked the same way and stuffed to the same firmness, which is why it reads as a fruit lying beside her rather than a red patch behind her. It is also deliberately oversized — nearly as big as the bunny herself — which is what makes the pair read as a scene instead of a motif with a decoration stuck on.
- The seeds are individual white stitches placed by hand, scattered irregularly rather than set in rows. Evenly spaced they would read as a pattern. Scattered, they read as a strawberry. Because they are placed by eye, no two clips are marked quite alike.
- The calyx is crocheted separately in five points and set over the top of the fruit rather than worked into it, so it sits proud of the red and casts its own shadow.
- The mat underneath is a flat oval worked in rounds in pale cream, then edged the whole way round with raised bobbles in red. The bobbles are made on the edging round itself, so they stand out from the rim and scallop rather than lying flush — the mat has a ruffled border instead of a stripe.
- The clip is a flat snap bar bonded to a felt pad rather than sewn on bare, so nothing metal sits against the scalp and the clip closes against fabric.
