Description
Colour with no edges anywhere on it.
The design is laid before the felting, not after. Loose coloured fleece is set down in a burst radiating from a centre point, and then the whole thing is wet-felted — and felting does not leave colour where you put it. As the fibres lock together they migrate, dragging each colour a little way into its neighbour. Purple walks into orange, pink bleeds through teal, and every boundary turns soft because the two colours are now physically tangled rather than butted against each other.
That also means it cannot be repeated. A painted design can be copied exactly; this one is partly decided by the wool while it shrinks.
The small dark dashes scattered across the surface are the counterweight. They are slivers of contrasting fibre that resist blending and stay sharp, and they are the only crisp marks on the whole purse. Without them the field would read as mud rather than light.
Six colourways, each with a matching felted ball on the zip:
Sunset — orange and purple with a lime core.
Violet — magenta through purple into teal.
Crimson — deep red, moss and plum.
Cobalt — electric blue shot through with pink.
Fuchsia — hot pink against teal and green.
Marigold — orange and purple, with an orange pull.
Metal zip along the top. The back is a single solid colour, which is the whole point — all the noise is on the front.
Made from New Zealand wool.

Craft
- Surface design laid before felting, not applied after.
- Loose coloured fleece is set down in a burst radiating from a centre point, then the whole piece is wet-felted. Felting does not leave colour where you put itas the fibres lock together they migrate, carrying each colour a short way into its neighbour. Purple walks into orange, pink bleeds through teal, and every boundary turns soft — because the two colours are now physically tangled rather than butted up against one another.
- That is also why it cannot be repeated. An appliqued or painted design can be copied exactly. This one is finished partly by the wool itself as it shrinks, and the maker only controls where it starts.
- The small dark dashes are the counterweight, and they are the one deliberate piece of control on the surface. They are slivers of contrasting fibre that resist blending and stay sharp through the fulling, so they remain the only crisp marks on an otherwise edgeless field. Without them the whole thing would read as mud rather than as light.
- The back is left a single solid colour. All the noise is on the front, which is what stops the piece looking busy in the hand.
