Description

There is a chick sitting on her head and she has not mentioned it.

The face is needle-felted in deep relief: two rounded white cheeks either side of a pink nose, a white blaze running up between dark brown patches, and a pair of enormous eyes ringed in ink blue with a single white catchlight in each. A mustard cord frames her face like a bonnet and ties in a loose bow at the throat, and a cloud of soft white fleece gathers around all of it. Long ears, lined in pink and outlined in black, rise behind. The chick is between them, perfectly calm.

The bag itself is wet-felted from marled grey wool, thick and firm, with the handle cut as part of the body rather than stitched on. It closes with a felted ball button on a dark loop, and the inside is the same grey felt, unlined.

Come spring it is an Easter bag. A bonnet, a rabbit and a chick is the whole picture, and it is better in the photographs than anything with a basket handle and plastic grass. The rest of the year it is simply a grey wool handbag with a very good face on it.

Made from New Zealand wool.

Product Care

Pure New Zealand pasture wool naturally repels dust and light spills thanks to its dense, organic fiber structure.

Day-to-dayBrush gently with a soft brush, working around the face rather than over it. The white ruff is the part that picks up marks, so keep it away from denim and newsprint.

Spot cleaningDab with a damp cloth and a drop of mild wool wash, then blot dry.

ReshapingStuff lightly with tissue and dry into shape away from direct heat. Press the ears flat again with your palm and tease the ruff back up with your fingers.

NeverMachine wash or soak. The pink and mustard sit directly against white fleece and will bleed into it.
