Description
Look at how the colours fall. Red at the top left and the bottom right, green at the top right and the bottom left — alternating on the diagonal rather than red on one side and green on the other.
That changes what the bow is. A bow tied from a single ribbon has matching loops. This one doesn't, so it reads as two ribbons — one red, one green — crossed over each other and tied together, the way a parcel gets tied when one length isn't enough. It is a small bit of visual logic and it is the reason the piece holds the eye longer than a plain bow would.
The white tie is not ribbon either. It is a cord crocheted separately in a long chain, then wrapped round the middle and knotted for real — an actual knot, with two tails left hanging, rather than a loop sewn down to imitate one.
The whole thing is worked in a dense crochet stitch that gives each loop enough body to hold its shape instead of flopping.
On the back is an alligator clip — the hinged, toothed kind. It grips harder than the flat snap clips, which makes it the better choice for thick or slippery hair, and it will hold in a ponytail where a snap clip slides out.
Materials
- Crocheted yarn in red, green and white.
- Separately crocheted cord tie, knotted by hand.
- Metal alligator clip.
- No glue on the bow itself.

Craft
- Crochet, with one deliberate decision about colour placement.
- The four loops alternate on the diagonal — red at top left and bottom right, green at top right and bottom left — rather than red on one side and green on the other. That is not arbitrary. A bow tied from a single ribbon has matching loops; alternating them makes the piece read as two separate ribbons, one red and one green, crossed over and tied together. It is the way a parcel gets tied when one length of ribbon is not long enough, and it gives the eye something to work out.
- The white tie is a cord crocheted separately as a long chain, then wrapped around the middle and tied in a genuine knot with the two tails left hanging. Most crocheted bows have a wrapped band sewn down at the back to imitate a knot. This one is actually knotted, which is why the tails fall at slightly different angles and why the centre has real depth to it.
- Each loop is worked in a dense stitch rather than an open one, so it carries enough body to hold its shape rather than collapsing flat against the head.
- The clip is an alligator rather than a snap. The two are not interchangeablea snap clip lies flatter and suits fine hair, while the hinged, toothed alligator grips harder and will hold in thick or freshly washed hair where a snap slides straight out.
