Description

A whole mushroom, not a picture of one.

The cap is needle-felted into a real dome — deep red, with cream spots worked into the surface rather than stitched on top — and the stem is a solid cream column beneath it, slightly barrelled, the way a young fly agaric actually grows. The underside of the cap is cream too, so it reads correctly from any angle.

Because it is sculpted rather than flat, it stands out from the fridge door and throws a small shadow, which is most of its charm. The wool is left with its natural halo of loose fiber rather than shaved smooth.

A magnet is set into the back of the cap. Made from New Zealand wool.

Materials
  • New Zealand wool, needle-felted solid.
  • Spots felted into the cap surface, not stitched on.
  • Magnet set into the back of the cap.
  • No wire armature, no plastic core.
Dimensions
Craft
  1. Sculptural needle felting, worked in the round. Loose fleece is wound and then punched repeatedly with a barbed needle until the fibers lock into a solid form — the cap packed into a dome, the stem into a slightly barrelled column, each firm enough to hold its shape without any inner frame.
  2. The cream spots are laid onto the red and felted down into it, so they are part of the cap rather than sitting on top of it. The underside of the cap is finished in cream as well, which matters on a piece people see from below as they walk past.
  3. The surface is left with its natural halo of loose fiber rather than shaved smooth, which is what gives felted wool its soft edge against the light.
Product Care

Pure New Zealand pasture wool naturally repels dust and light spills thanks to its dense, organic fiber structure.

Day-to-daylift it off rather than dragging it. A soft brush or a lint roller takes off kitchen dust, following the curve of the cap.

Spot cleaningblot a mark with a barely damp cloth and let it dry fully before putting it back up. Do not soak — water can loosen the magnet and bleed the red into the cream.

Reshapingif the cap flattens under something heavy, work it back with your fingers; the felt has memory. Store it standing rather than stacked.
